Dear SWIA community. It is with great sadness that I announce that Grandmaster Lee Kam Wing has transitioned and is no longer with us. Join Sifu Chik Mason and Sifu Dylan Kirk Monday, February 26th from 6:30 to 7:30 for a FREE seven star mantis workout in honor of Grandmaster Lee Kam Wing. Many of you know that Sifu Chik studied and taught seven star mantis before forming SWIA and focusing on baguazhang and taijiquan. He was the Pennsylvania representative with a small school near Trenton NJ having studied with both Stanley Moy and Lee Kam Wing. (You can see the original white seven star shirts from that time in the photo). As I remember it, he had to write multiple letters to be accepted as a student, and eventually went to train in Kowloon. While there, he met Master Pang and shifted focus to Chinese medicine and internal arts, but Seven Star Mantis stayed an essential part of the SWIA system to this day. Bongbo Quan was one of the first gongfu forms I ever learned and the Secrets of the Seven Star Mantis was my first ever kungfu book. I had the opportunity to meet and train with Master Lee Kam Wing during my trips to Asia. What I remember is being surprised by his very warm, kind and generous nature, and his very clear purpose in teaching this art. He was also an osteopath and even in his old age moved with a crisp speed and power unlike anyone else. I had always hoped to go back, and never thought he would pass so soon, but everything keep turning, just like the seven stars around the center.
